Three labels
- Official
- Read from a government authority's own page or legal text. The page and the quotation are kept.
- Secondary
- Open data, an academic coding or a company's own published terms, named with its licence.
- Derived
- Coded by us from an instrument, such as an EU regulation's annex, and labelled with that instrument.
Two kinds of absence
- Not found
- The source was read and does not state it. This is a finding, not a gap in our work.
- Not read
- The source would not serve, or the collection has not reached this country. Nothing is inferred in its place.
What changes with the passport
Entry, both ways; whether you keep your citizenship if you naturalise; the missions on both sides; a licence exchanged without a test where the country names yours; and travel advice, which is shown only to the passport it was written for. Everything marked Same for every passport is the country's own rule for anyone.
What this site does not do
- It does not advise. It sets out what each authority states, and where it is silent.
- It does not rank countries or passports, and it does not total them.
- It does not replace a mission's own instructions; a consulate may ask for more than its ministry publishes.
